A new study, conducted by University of Utah researchers, discovered that mindful qualities which occur naturally can improve mood fluctuations and sleep. People who consider themselves to be more mindful have more stable emotions and better control over their mood through the day. Their emotional stability leads to less physiological and cognitive activity before bedtime which may mean they sleep better. Those who participated in the study wore a cardiac functioning monitor throughout their day and periodically answered questions about their emotional state and mental functioning. The researchers believe their results show an important way mindfulness contributes to better emotional and physical feelings of well-being.
