In her article about the five mindfulness trainings, writer Andrea Miller mentions that in the summer of 2011, she committed herself to daily practicing the mindfulness trainings developed by Thich Nhat Hanh. In his book, Good Citizens, Thich Nhat Hanh wrote, “The five mindfulness trainings are offered without dogma or religion. Everybody can use them as an ethics for their life without becoming Buddhist….” The Five Mindfulness Trainings are Reverence For Life, True Happiness, True Love, Loving Speech and Deep Listening, and Nourishment and Healing. As it has for Andrea, this “down-to-earth” way to practice mindfulness every day can help us achieve happiness for ourselves as well as eliminate intolerance, anger, despair, and fear.
