Was that a tall tale or the truth? These seven tips can help you decide: 1) Find a “truth baseline.” Watch the person in a stress-free environment. If he tells a lie later, you’ll notice the changes. 2) Watch for stress signals. Lying can increase stress. 3) Look at the eyes. Is he giving you too much eye contact or too little? 4) Look for nonverbal cues. Is he playing with his watch or otherwise fidgeting? 5) Is your question being answered? Is the wording misleading? 6) Listen for changes in his voice. When someone is lying, their voice may be higher. 7) Watch undercover emotions. Does his smile show in his eyes?
