Stress comes in many forms: financial worries, health challenges, unsatisfying work, family or relationship problems, and loss of life and property. Left unattended, stress can build up and leave us overwhelmed. We can transform our stress response by following these steps: 1) Release frustration, impatience, irritation, and anxiety. When these feelings arise, breathe consciously. 2) Say NO to drama. When we’re stressed, worry and drama can follow. Replace these with calm. 3) Reduce self-judgment. Self-judgment impairs our heart connection within ourselves, leaving only our brains to deal with problems. 4) Reopen the heart feeling. Reconnect to others with kindness. 5) Watch and read the news with balanced emotion. Prepare yourself beforehand to be balanced.
