What triggers stress? Most of us become stressed from the awful situations that occur in our everyday lives. There are other things, things we may not be aware of, that cause our anxiety levels to rise. Food additives like Aspartame, food dyes, and food coloring have been reported to cause mood swings and anxiety. Other stress triggering additives are high fructose corn syrup and MSG. Over the counter drugs that contain caffeine such as headache and migraine medications, cough and asthma medications, and weight-loss supplements can spike heart rates and increase feelings of anxiety. Skipping meals and being dehydrated are also ways we can trigger stress and anxiety.
