Although positive anxiety or stress, called eustress and often referred to as “having butterflies” does exists, negative anxiety or “ugly butterflies” is not a pleasant experience. There are steps that you can begin incorporating today to regain control over problematic anxiety. Educate yourself about your symptoms. What are your triggers — thoughts, people, objects, food, places? What does it feel like? Remember them to remind yourself that you know what you are feeling. This is the first step in managing it. Pay attention to your diet. Sugar, caffeine, and fatty foods can be triggering your anxiety. More protein, herbal teas, whole grains, water, fruits, and vegetables may ease your symptoms.
