It’s common for couples to forget that being a spouse comes with responsibilities not found in other relationships. Spouses have the responsibility to revere each other and to accept imperfections in each other. We shouldn’t expect more from our spouse than we do from our self. It’s easy to take the closeness of our intimate spousal relationship for granted and become critical and demanding. We can spend so much time trying to control or change our spouse that we don’t realize how our negativity is eating away at our once happy marriage. If we become our spouse’s advocate rather than a critical parent, we can benefit our relationship.
