A recent study indicated that internet-based cognitive behavior therapy (CBT) may help reduce the depressive symptoms of adolescents and young adults. The study, published in The Journal of Medical Internet Research, set out to determine the effectiveness of Master Your Mood (MYM), an internet-based CBT intervention for depressive symptoms among young people. Participants were assigned to either the online MYM course or to a wait-list control. The MYM group focused on cognitive restructuring, identifying and responding to their own unhelpful and inaccurate thoughts, engaging in pleasant activities every day, and measuring their moods every day. Three months later, the MYM group showed significant improvement.
