Whether men and women differ in cognitive abilities is a question long debated in psychology. Traditionally, men are believed to be stronger in math and women stronger with words. Now, however, Harvard psychologist Howard Gardner has developed the theory of multiple intelligences. This theory proposes that we have at least eight different types of intelligence, and changes the question from “who is smarter” to “how are you smart?” Rather than dealing with traditional gender stereotypes, the focus now shifts to a person’s strengths and weaknesses. Looking at intelligence as a multifaceted quality could finally end the battle of the sexes.
