What is forgiveness? In a way, forgiveness is faith in the future and a belief in the higher nature of people. When we forgive someone, we show our belief that people can have a change of heart and that they can learn from their mistakes. When a person is repentant, contrite, and shows a willingness to do better, our forgiveness is a moral act. With open hearts on both sides, forgiveness is possible and becomes a spiritual bond wherein both parties reach deeply into themselves and are mutually benefitted. Our faith in others must also apply to ourselves when we acknowledge that we, too, make mistakes and hurt others and are in need of forgiveness.
