When we feel pain, our body is letting us know that something is wrong. Acute pain happens suddenly and goes away when our injury is taken care of. Chronic pain can last for months or years, and can be debilitating, straining our physical and emotional well being. Practicing mindfulness is a proven way to treat chronic pain. Mindfulness meditation helps in two ways. First, it helps us better tolerate our pain, and second, it can reduce the intensity of our pain sensation. Through mindfulness, we can create a different relationship with pain because our perception of it changes. Mindfulness is a technique available to everyone.
