There’s nothing easy about living with depression. You can’t enjoy things the way you once did, and the future seems bleak at best. Loving someone who feels depressed can be just as hard. You feel powerless to help as you watch your spouse retreat into a dark place. You want to follow them inside; you want to bring them back out, but you can’t.
You can support your depressed spouse by loving him unconditionally, even when things are hard. Know when to give him space. Don’t be afraid to ask what he needs. When he’s feeling better, help him come up with a plan to find peace.
